So I woke up the other day and fetched the newspaper. On the front page there was news about this guy Yuri Milner, who recently invested $100m in Stephan Hawking’s ambitious project in search of life beyond our planet. And on the inside pages was the whole life of Mr. Milner unfolded and presented in numbers. This guy made a fortune by investing in different global brands and companies. The kind of money he has is just impossible to believe. And like every other middle class man in pursuit of better or higher living, I started wondering when will I be that rich! Okay if not as rich as Mr. Milner, but enough to have all things which a man of my age wishes for.
I thought of myself sitting in a car, probably a Honda CR-V, driving on a picturesque seaside road along the Konkan Ghats, most probably going to Goa for a party, with my favorite music playing through the Radio accompanied by my lady luck and my dog (Yes! I’m not going to give it up so easily! I’ll get a German Shepherd or a Retriever, who’ll be called Oscar or Blondie or Yoko or Neo) And I also realized immediately that this is going to take a hell lot of time or might not turn into reality at all! I came back to reality and leaned forward to take a sip from my cup, only to realize that it was empty! “Saala apna cup hamesha khali rahega” I said to myself sarcastically and turned to the last page to read the sports column.
And this thought of having an empty cup stuck in my mind. I couldn’t help but notice all the things that I have always wished for, which for some reason never found their way to me. I remembered all the opportunities that I have lost till now waiting for a better one to come. And with each thought my glass felt emptier than before. By the end of the tenth thought my glass was completely empty.
And at that very moment something happened, like it happens in every reversible chemical reaction, my brain chemicals stopped being ridiculous and flipped their head in other direction. Whenever the balance shifts too much to one side, to keep the reaction in equilibrium the products start getting converted back into the raw materials. Well that didn’t happen in my brain. Instead, I started looking for the good times I have witnessed. I remembered my childhood when life was simple and all I cared for was fun. I remembered my stupid fights with my sister and my best friends and a smile appeared on my face. I remembered my school days and all those friends which I had and was happy that some of them are thankfully still there in my life. I thanked my luck that I found the best friends in college, who became my brothers and still continue to help me in taking my life important decisions. I realised that I am very happy and at peace with myself if I don’t care about the missed chances and moments. With each positive thought my glass started to fill with more vigour. And I realized that it depends on us whether our glass is full or empty.
Well it can’t be completely full and empty at all. Because there is no state or phase of life where a man is fully happy or extremely sad. There is always a silver lining around the grey clouds telling us that this cover of grey is temporary. Soon it will vanish and the sun will reappear. But that’s how sadness or depression is. It comes suddenly and stealthily as an unexpected rain shower. We don’t even realize that it’s there until the first drop falls. And then the downpour is so heavy that we can’t even look up to see if there is an end to it. But as Winston Churchill has famously said, keep walking through it. Soon you’ll be out of it.
Life is full of surprises and each day brings a bit of sunshine and rain. sunshine doesn’t mean happiness and rain doesn’t mean misery. It just means there are two extremes. If there is only sunshine, then you won’t appreciate it as much. It is the rainfall that proves to us the value of the shining sun! That’s the same rule for us loving the monsoon so much. Ask anyone from Europe or America. They don’t care about the rains. But we Indians have this special place kept in our hearts for the monsoon. The why of it lies in the Summers. We get burnt in the scorching summer heat for months that even a little bit of rain pleases our mind and body alike! That’s pretty much the funda behind a peaceful life! You have to accept whatever comes your way. And pray that you don’t get only sunshine or only rains. Otherwise you might miss out on one of the most beautiful creations of nature, The Rainbow!
And as far as the glass is concerned, when it is full, that means you are not drunk yet! And if is is empty, you need to sleep and let the hangover pass! 😛 Or as the line perfectly describes, “Kisike Hisse Mein Pyaas Aayi Kisike Hisse Mein Jaam Aaya”.
That’s it for today! I was so caught up with work and other things that I hardly had time to sit and write. I managed this post while standing in a crowded train, with one uncle who was trying to disturb me and was getting on my nerves as he kept staring at my phone as if I was looking at pictures of women from magazines or the latest kingfisher calender! I hope I get some time to write in the coming weeks! Do write your comments or remarks below, if any!
Have a nice day friends! See you soon, Hopefully! 😀

It was good, but you ended it so abruptly….it seems you are really very busy. I would like you to write holding the same string ahead. This sudden end made me restless……
